Irregular Verbs

Learning Irregular Verbs

Irregular Verbs are probably the most difficult verbs to learn because they do not follow any rules, they are the wild children of the English languages, and because of it, I adore them.
Since there are no rules, the only way to learn irregular verbs is to commit them to memory. Use them as much as possible so that they don’t escape the steal trap of your mind.
Let us begin by learning some now…

Infinitive
Simple Past
Past Principle
Arise
Arose
Arisen
Awake
Awoke
Awakened
Backslide
Backslid
Backslidden
Be
Was , Were
Been
Bear
Bore
Born / Borne
Beat
Beat
Beaten
Become
Became
become

Good, let’s start with those and see how far we get.

Topics of discussion for the first class

Hi, Since this is our first class, why don't we begin by getting to know each other. The past is the foundation for all of us, and knowing you better will allow me to tailor the class around your knowledge of the language and what things interest you the most. lets begin with these questions...
  1. Why do you want to learn English?
Do you wish to learn because you are about to travel to an English speaking country? are you trying to get a better job, or become better at the job you are in right now? are you trying to impress that handsome English or american boy, or that beautiful English speaking girl?
  1. Have you ever tried to learn English before?
Have you ever taken a course? done classes during school? or even gotten a book on tape to listen to in the car?
  1. How do you plan on practicing your English on non class days?
you have to practice as much as you can, practice every day for at least 40 min, that is the best way to retain all of the information you learn during class time. so how do you plan to practice? talking is the best way, have you researched to see if there are any English speaking activities in your area?
